Addendum to the Contracted Independent Organization Form (CIO)

Name of Organization _______________________________________________________________________


  1. We have read, understand and agree to abide by the terms contained within the Agreement for a Contracted Independent Organization (CIO) that we have submitted on-line to the Student Activities Office for the 2007-08 academic year.

  2. We agree that any contract or other legally binding document that we or members of our organization enter into on behalf of our organization shall include the following statement which shall be initialed and dated by all parties to the contract or other agreement:
    “[NAME OF ORGANIZATION], the party to this agreement/document, is an independent student organization and is neither a unit of Cornell University nor an agent of Cornell University for any purpose.  [NAME OF ORGANIZATION] is not authorized to commit Cornell University contractually and therefore this agreement/document does not contain the commitment of, and is not in any manner binding upon or enforceable against, Cornell University.”
  3. All correspondence on behalf of the organization with these parties shall include the following statement:  “[NAME OF ORGANIZATION] is an independent organization and is neither a unit of Cornell University nor an agent of Cornell University for any purpose.”

  4. We will register all of our organization’s events as required via the on-line Use of University Property form located at http://www.activities.cornell.edu/eventreg

  5. We will assure that all bills incurred related to our organization’s events are submitted within 30 days of the event or sooner if funding deadlines dictate an earlier date.

  6. We understand that any publication(s) produced by the organization will include the following statement in the masthead in a type and size that is clear and legible to the reader:
    “An independent student publication”
    We will also include the following statement within the publication in a type and size that is clear and legible to the reader:
  7. "[NAME OF INDEPENDENT ORGANIZATION/STUDENT ENTITY], an independent student organization located at Cornell University, produced and is responsible for the content of this publication. This publication was not reviewed or approved by, nor does it necessarily express or reflect the policies or opinions of, Cornell University or its designated representatives. "
    Further, the name of the advisor will be listed within the publication, along with contact information.


  8. We understand that failure to comply with these and other university policies and procedures may result in our organization’s probation, suspension, loss of funding, referral to the Judicial Administrator, fines and/or other sanctions.

The original copy of this document will be kept on file in the Student Activities Office and a copy of this document will be given to the representative who turns in this document to SAO.
