Student Activities Office - Programs and Services The Student Activities Office is pleased to offer the following programs and services to Cornell students, faculty and staff:

SAO Sponsored Clubs & Organizations: The Student Activities Office advises 10 student organizations, including the Class Councils, Concert Commission, Program Boards, Festival of Black Gospel, and others.

Student Leadership Institute at Cornell (SLIC) Each year (usually at the beginning of the spring semester), the Student Activities Office sponsors a leadership institute for club/organization leaders. Click here for information about the institute, and a look back at previous institutes.

Student Organization Awards and Recognition (SOAR) Late in the spring semester, usually around mid-late April, be on the lookout for SAO's 'Call for Nominations.' The annual awards ceremony recognizes outstanding students, organizations, programs, and staff members. Click here for information about the awards ceremony, as well as a list of previous award recipients.

Organization Registration occurs each fall. All organizations are required to register with the Student Activities Office in order to be active on campus and benefit from university services.

Event Registration allows you to register your event and notifies the appropriate campus officials via the "Use of University Poperty (UUP) Form." Please register all events:

  • scheduled in a venue which holds 200 or more
  • which involve a sale or fundraising
  • where alcohol will be served
  • where food will be served

Use of Cornell Name and Artwork Any club/organization or university department who wishes to use the Cornell name or artwork on novelty items such as mugs, pens, shirts, etc. must obtain written approval from the Student Activities Office. This link will take you to the University Relations page which explains the procedure, and allows you to download the appropriate form.

Free Organization Web Access: Any club or organization who registers with the Student Activities Office may apply for free web space. To view Registered Student Organizations Web Pages, go to http://www.sao.cornell.edu/SO/ and follow the links to "Search Organizations."

Policies and Resources for Student Organizations and Event Planning: When planning an event, it is important to take into consideration various University policies. These policies include the Postering Policy, Guidelines for filing a Use of University Property Form, and Late Night Event Guidelines. For more information on any of these policies, please contact the Student Activities Office.

Cornell Productions: As a student-managed employment area, members of CP provide sound and lighting services for campus events. They are always looking for new employees and events. Please contact CP at productions@cornell.edu. Cornell Productions typically closes in the summer, and reopens in the fall when school begins. Joe Scaffido supervises Cornell Productions.

Cornell Ceramics Studio: Creative Stress Management at its best! Classes and studio memberships are offered for a nominal fee. Contact the studio at 607-255-5170. Andy Palmer oversees the Ceramics Studio.

520 Reception Area: Located on the fifth floor of Willard Straight Hall, the 520 reception area provides a number of services, including WSH reservations, resources for clubs & organizations, general policy information, and event planning resources.
